Carol A Golly, P.L., MSW, Licensed ClCarol Golly Child Therapy Centerinical Social Worker and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor is a private practitioner in psychotherapy for children and families. Her Child Therapy Center is located on Davis Blvd, located in the city of Naples near downtown.  Carol has maintained a thriving private practice since 2000.

Carol specializes in the treatment of infants, children, adolescents, and teenagers using the healing power of play, and creative and experiential activities. She has been a Naples resident since 1983, and has had extensive experience and training in the mental health area.  Her specialties include the assessment and treatment of young people with depression, anxiety, school refusal, phobia, PTSD, trauma, grief, attachment issues, self-mutilation, and children in high-conflict divorce, parental loyalty binds, and child witnesses to domestic violence.  Carol works closely with parents, school staff (if needed and permission is given by parent), and other treating professionals.  Carol incorporates parenting guidance, support, and behavior management into treatment as needed, using evidence-based approaches such as Love and Logic; and 1,2,3, Magic.  

Career

Carol is a Registered Play Therapist, and Registered Play Therapist supervisor (RPT-S) with the Association for Play Therapy. In 2008 Carol completed a training certificate in Infant Mental Health at the Miami Institute for Child and Family Health. Carol is a member of the Association for Play Therapy (National and Florida), the National Association of Social Workers, the Association for Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC), and Sigma Xi Honor Society for Scientific Research.

Carol is a qualified supervisor for registered social work interns in the state of Florida, as well as for licensed mental health professionals seeking the play therapist credentials of Registered Play Therapist (RPT) or Registered Play therapist Supervisor (RPT-S). Carol provided clinical licensure and play therapy supervision for two of her office colleagues, Diana and Megan.  All office clinicians have advanced training and extensive experience with child and parent populations.  

Carol worked for Collier County Public Schools in the Teenage Parenting Program (TAPP) where she taught parenting classes and case-managed pregnant and parenting students. She later became District Coordinator for Peer Mediation and Conflict Resolution programs in the Collier Schools. Carol was a children's counselor at the Shelter for Abused Women, facilitating support groups for children who had witnessed domestic violence. Carol was a Bereavement Counselor for Hospice of Naples, providing counseling and support groups for grieving children and adults.

Education

Carol completed doctoral course work in summer, 2015 at the School of Social Work at Barry University in Miami, FL.  Her research interest is in parent and grandparental alienation; and child and adolescent trauma.  She is currently completing her doctoral dissertation "Pruning the Family Tree: the Plight of Grandparents who are Alienated from their Grandparents".  Carol has presented nationally on this and other topics and her article by the same name is in-press for publication at the peer-revised journal Aging & Society.  Carol is a founding board member in 2011 of Alienated Grandparents Anonymous (AGA, Inc,), a support, advocacy, and educational group for grandparents and parents who experience access blocking from their grandchildren.  AGA strategic alliances now exist in all 50 states and 14 countries.  A partnership with the David Lawrence Center in Naples, FL, provides for licensed counselors trained in dynamics of grandparent and parent alienation to provide counseling services to affected families.

Carol graduated with High Honors from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts with a B.A. in Psychology, and received a Masters in Social Work from Barry University in Miami, Florida in 1991. Carol obtained her license as a Florida Clinical Social Worker in 1995.
